Tour Activities

Sweetwaters Chimp Sanctuary

Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary is a refuge to orphaned and abused chimpanzees. The sanctuary takes in chimpanzees from West and Central Africa rescuing them from the pet trade, conflict zones and poaching or smuggling seizures and offers them safety and security in natural enclosures.

Ol Pejeta Lion Tracking

Did you know that you could guess how old a lion is by the colour of its nose? Feed your imagination by learning more fascinating facts about this vulnerable big cat, and help protect them, by going lion tracking on Ol Pejeta.

A few of the lions have been fitted with radio collars, and you can accompany one of the specialised lion trackers as he searches for their signal. When a pride is found, you can help identify individual lions by recording whisker patterns, scars, ear tears and other characteristics. The data you collect goes straight to the ecological monitoring department, and helps to find solutions to the challenges facing Laikipia’s lions.

Take this unique opportunity to head out on Ol Pejeta Conservancy to track the lion population. It is a great way to support the conservation project and to learn more about these fascinating animals. All of the information gathered is passed on to the Ol Pejeta Ecological Monitoring Department.

Guests remain in the vehicle at all times. Tracking excursions depart daily between 06:30h – 09:30h and 15:30h – 18:30h.

Ol Pejeta Endangered Species Boma

In 2009, Ol Pejeta Conservancy welcomed four of the world’s last remaining seven northern white rhinos from the Dvur Kralove Zoo in the Czech Republic. The three remaining rhino now live in the 700-acre Endangered Species Boma, along with small populations of Grevy’s zebra and Jackson’s hartebeest. Here, visitors have a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet these remarkable rhino up close and personal and to hear their amazing story from the keepers that look after them 24/7. All proceeds from the Endangered Species Boma are reinvested into the continuing efforts to pull the species back from the verge of extinction.

This activity is available twice daily at 08:30 and 16:00
